Quilting

Quilting is a process to make a quilt by stitching fabrics together forming a decorative design. Quilting is a great fun and time pass activity. It can be done either by machines or hands.  Typically a quilt has three layers:

1.      The top one is the decorative, layer of patch work, made by single sheet of fabric.

2.      The second is the filling layer, filled with batting or insulating material which provides a warmth giving layer.

3.      The third one is back, which is usually a single piece of fabric.

So quilting is process of stitching these three layers together either by hand or machine. It’s more like an art, you can add your designing skills on the top layer to make a quilt more attractive.  The pattern appears on a quilt when the quilting stitches flatten the wadding or batting and the unstitched areas puff up.

Quilting Basics and Instructions:

No matter if you are a beginner or already stitched many quilts, there are some basic giddiness before getting into it.

·        Before purchasing tools or fabrics to make a quilt, take an inventory of what you have on hand.

·        You should practice on a smaller quilt before staring a huge one.

·        Find a portable storage container for holding all necessaries items of quilting. It can be a plastic storage container or any cloth bag.

·        Cutting Tools

Regular cutting scissors can be used, but rotary cutters are easiest and faster for cutting.

If you choose regular scissors, be sure that they are well sharpened.

If you choose rotary cutters, select a medium size.

·        Get a cutting mat

Get a cutting mat for cutting fabrics, so that you will not cut another thing. It will also help to keep things together in one place.

·        Thread Selection

Thread comes in many different varieties and colors. So choose beautiful colors as you want to make the pattern. Avoid using cheap thread, it is more likely to break when stitching.

·        Selection of fabrics

Fabric selection is one of the most important step in making a quilt. Always consider the best quality fabrics as there are variety of fabrics material in market.

·        Choose pattern

To make your quilt more attractive you can use many different patterns. Free patterns are available online or you can purchase a book. Circular quilting patterns are more attractive.

·        Cut you fabric

Start cutting your fabric according to the pattern. Cut in different pieces of same size. Take appropriate measures before cutting.

·        Stitching

This is the stage where you have to apply your pattern. Stitch according to the pattern of your demand in beautiful way.  After completing the first layer, attach the second layer with first one.

·        Filling and Quilting 

At this stage fill the cover with the batting. It will warmth your quilt making the inner layer between two layers of fabrics.

·        Finish the binding

At the end use invisible thread to stitch the corners of quilt.
